Check out our play through of this awesome game!

What is the engine? Thanks for answering <3

It was made in GameMaker: Studio.

The Aftermath

Neat lil' game you have here! :) Though I wanna report a bug, which happened thanks to my clumsiness, hehe. I never played Papers, Please so not knowing what to expect, I lifted the stamp without putting the paper on the desk first. It made a small line at the edge of the paper and after I put the paper on the table and tried it again, the stamp pushed it away, doing nothing else. I had to restart since the drawer didn't open. Oh, and here's a suggestion: I think you should write every 'detail' segment in past tense, since all these people are already dead.

Thanks! If a small line appeared on the sheet it means it was labelled as 'stamped' so it is weird that the drawer didn't open, I'll take a look into it. English is not my native language and I was in serious need of sleep at the time of the Jam during which I made the game so I apologise for any grammar inconvenience. It will only be updated in a possible future update.

Quite an interesting concept for a game. :) Short and to the point, with a cool twist at the end! :) I loved the game, well done to the creator! If you would like to see what the game is about or would like to see a funny let's play of it, then please check it this video! :)

Short, simple, but a bit repitive. Need more sins.

'Ate a person'

'Punched a flower'

'Told Grandma she looked terrible with her blue rinse'

I'm all open to info suggestions, you can submit as much as you want right here.

Thank you!

why can I play it wont let me

I'll need more details on the situation if you want me to help you.

I remember!

This music makes me think that of the game "Fleeing the complex" (Henry Stickmin) :D

After checking it out, the title screen music of that game does have a similar russian-esque feeling to it :P

Please make a mac version for all us Mac people

I wish I could but I'm sadly not able to.

Tselmek, can i translate it in french ?

(+1)

Sure, why not. Je suis français moi-même donc n'hésite pas à demander quoi que ce soit. French might be your second language so I'll keep going in english. You can find the "data.ini" file in the zip folder, there you can edit the text as you want. I probably won't be able to implement the translation for now but you can use it for whatever you want.

Hey everyone I posted 3 INDIE GAMES! I had tons of fun with these little games!

"The Aftermath" was one of them!

Thanks for playing!

Tselmek, can i translate the game to polish language? :)

For sure!

Okay so... how? :P

There's a "data.ini" file with all the text in the zip folder, you can edit it to polish though I'm unsure if the font can handle special characters.

Okay so.. um.. will you add a function so you can change languages between polish and english? Just asking.

I won't for now but if/when I make an content update, choosing your language will be available. However a lot more new text would be added. For now the translation can be made available for everyone by sharing the edited file.

This was neat! The randomness to the paperwork brought some hilarious results, though XD And quite a few that made you think.

I also did a let's play of it! Hope I did this game justice!

Thanks for playing!

ps. You are able to zoom in on the sheets, this must have given you a hard time to manage to read it :P

I thought picking them up zoomed them in as much as they could be zoomed in >< crap...

(-1)

Very entertaining! Even made a video about it!

Cheers man!

Thanks for playing!

the game opens but when I press the right button closes the game alone

That's weird, could you detail the bug? what OS are you on, on what screen does it close when you click, do you have other applications running, etc...

the same thing happens to me

This is a normal behaviour, if you wish to reset the game:

If you finished the game once and are stuck on the "You have been sent to ..." screen but wish to play more, press on H for 3 seconds straight and boom it is done.

The Aftermath is a quick nice little game in which you have to judge mortals for their sins, will they go to heaven.... or burn in hell? - Kind of my take on it, the simplicity makes it so great. My first impression

Thanks for playing it!

Pleasure was all mine!

Glad you liked it. Did you happen to edit the file before taking that screenshot?

I like the music :D

Thank you in zminusone's stead, here's where you can listen to more of his great work.

Can you tell me how to open the game?

You should find a file named "The Aftermath.exe" inside the zip folder, just double-click on that.

This is my play through of the game! I really loved this idea and it was very funny to play! XD Though I think that the randomization could be worked with a bit, but at the same time, even the very random randomization was very funny! Good job!

This game is so funny and entertaining, the only thing that bugs me is, I can't replay it. I finish it once and chose Heaven. It now says "Sent to Heaven" and closes. Please dude. Make a way to new game or reset the file! PLEASE! I wanted to do a You Tube on it.

The trick is to keep the key pressed for 3 seconds straight. In case it doesn't work, you can look for the data.ini file in which you can change the variable end from end="heaven" or end="hell" to end="", then save and restart the game.

I love it, it's really funny. You should change it a bit so the life info isn't as random. I got a 9 year old social activist. Other than that, it"s good

Thanks! The randomisation of the info will be fixed in future updates.

I'm from Brazil and you could release a version with the Portuguese language of Brazil

(1 edit)

I might consider translating the game in futures updates but for now there's only english, sorry. On another hand, the data.ini file contained in the zip can easily be edited, thus a "handmade" translation is still possible.

How can I unzip the data.win to translate into Portuguese Brazilian?

It's the "data.ini" you want to open for that, it's a simple text format.

I am currently stuck on the "You have been sent to Hell" screen. I want to play more, and I have tried pressing on H multiple times AND redownloaded the game servral times. Is there another solution, or a file I could delete?

strange idea for a game, though i have a few requests, the option to either stamp multiple times, and the amount that is most of, will win(kinda like papers please, with multiple stamps, but there, only the first counts) and possibly a way to turn down/off the music? i enjoy playing with my own music playing, and it is hard when the game plays music as well(i know i can turn it off in the system volume, but i would rather be able to do it in game.

and maybe, if you can, make the game scale properly. I like playing games, but when they fail to scale, it cuts down on my love for it, not by much, but just enough to get me annoyed whenever i play it in fullscreen.

More complete options will definitely be available in a possible future update.

sweet, thanks :)

Very good game. I like it! A little question... what program did you use to make the game?

EDIT: I found a bug. When you try to stamp the paper when it's inside of.. i don't know how to spell it xD, then the game crashes.

Screenshot of the error message: http://prntscr.com/ceiqz4

Glad you enjoyed it, also thanks for reporting the bug, it greatly helps. Also, it's not a generally good idea to try to stamp a paper after stamping it once and sending it :P

Enjoyed your game, well done. Made me think more then I expected.

My Review

My Playthrough video

Thanks for playing, and nice job on the really detailed experience!

OMG how do you even open the freaking game, all it gives you is a stupid folder that only contains the file for sound and texture and stuff, and the bottom file looks like the game itself but when I open the very bottom file all it does is open my desktop file. How the freak are you even supposed to launch the game.

And plus the file that opens your desktop file, I can't delete it or put it in my rubbish bin in any way, from what I know I can't even get rid of that useless file. It says it's in use even when it's not and it's just sitting there being useless. All it does is open my desktop folder. This game looked really fun, but I didn't know that you can't even open the game, so how do other youtubers play this, MAGIC?

I'm way too confused by the whole situation to provide actual helpful advice. I didn't think launching a .exe inside a .zip file would be this much of a hurdle. :P

OMG You are so... i do not want to insult. Ahhh, Jesus. The FILE is the game.

This was a fun little game. Helped me learn how bad of a person I am xD

Thanks for playing!

If you manage to stamp something else than the paper by releasing at the right time as your moving over and away from the paper, the game crashes.

That is weird, does any error message pop up?

(1 edit)

This appears: ___________________________________________

############################################################################################

FATAL ERROR in

action number 1

of Step Event0

for object obj_stamp_heaven:

Variable <unknown_object>.<unknown variable>(100016, -2147483648) not set before reading it.

at gml_Object_obj_stamp_heaven_Step_0

############################################################################################

This was the heaven stamp. The exact same thing happens with the hell stamp, the only different thing is that everywhere it says heaven on the error message is replaced with hell. Sorry that im a little late replying. Not the best person at checking my notifications.

That bug's been reported a couple of times, I'll try to find the time to take a closer look but I don't promise anything. Thanks for reporting it!

This game was a blast to play! Can't wait to see what else you have in store. On a side note Congrats on getting the big youtubers to play it also.

Teehee thanks, and thanks for playing it too!

No problem! It was a blast! I'm gna try some of your other games also!
